The streaming service has led the way in the industry for over a decade. However, it is about to make a big change. 

Soon, the company will start offering subscription plans that include ads. The goal of this is to give people who want to get Netflix but do not want to pay the current monthly fee a cheaper alternative. 

With that said, this new plan opens up a whole new way of Netflix advertising for those interested in that market. 

If you are a business that tries to use streaming services for advertising, you may be trying to figure out what advertising plans are the best for you. How should you go about Netflix ads? 

This is your guide. 

Create a Budget 

The first thing that you need to do is create an advertising budget. This can give you a set idea of how much money you are willing to spend and how much money you can afford to spend. 

To do this, go into your own revenue and see what you can devote towards advertising. Most businesses devote up to 10% of their revenue towards advertising. However, some businesses take this to the extreme and devote 30% of their revenue towards it. 

What this means is that you have to evaluate your situation and deem what you can afford to spend. You also have to consider what other things you are spending your marketing budget on. 

Are you spending any money on email marketing? How about social media marketing? TV commercials? Radio ads? 

These are all things that you need to consider because when it comes to the advertising budget mentioned above, that is the total amount of money that companies spend on all of their marketing. So, not only do you need to know what your marketing budget is, but you also need to know what percentage of that is going to be devoted to Netflix advertising. 

Know Your Target Audience 

The next thing that you need to do is establish what your target audience is. This is because you are going to need to figure out if they are even in a niche where people are opting into ad plans. 

One thing that you need to keep in mind with Netflix advertising is that the only people who are going to be exposed to it are the people that volunteered to sign up with a subscription plan that includes ads. 

What does that mean? It means your target audience may not be the type that wants to be exposed to ads just to save a couple of bucks. 

You need to do your research on who is opting for this ad plan. After that, you need to do your research on what Netflix shows people in your target audience are seeing. 

For example, let’s say you have a product that targets men under 35. You would have to figure out what the most popular shows and documentaries are for men in that age group on Netflix. 

Once you figure that out, you can try to pick the shows and movies you want your advertisements to show up on. 

Consider Global Presence 

Part of the reason why Netflix wants to have an ads plan in the first place is to give a cheaper alternative for subscribers all over the world. Right now, people from other countries may choose other streaming services over them because of price. Well, Netflix is looking to change that. 

With this in mind, you need to consider what part of the world you want to see your product. For example, do you have a product that has to do with soccer apparel? 

If so, you could potentially gain the European market if you have not already with those countries that love soccer. You could also get other big soccer countries in Latin America such as Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina. 

Consider what countries you want to see your product in and then decide if it is worth the marketing effort and expense. 

Length and Placement of Ad 

Finally, you need to consider the length of the advertisement and placement of the advertisement. You have a few options for both of these things. 

When it comes to the length of advertisements, streaming services, and videos in general typically like three time lengths. They are 15 seconds, 30 seconds, and 60 seconds. Those time lengths tend to be the most flexible when placing them anywhere in the video, so some companies like to use those to add options. 

Another thing that you need to keep in mind is the placement of the ad. The most common times other streaming services and videos play these ads are at the beginning of the video, in the middle of the video, and at the end of the video. 

If you choose something at the very beginning or the very end, you have the option to do a longer video and go by a pay-per-click system. Basically, try to have expenses only for the people that do not skip the video after a few seconds and actually check out your website. 

Plan Your Netflix Advertising 

These are the biggest keys when it comes to Netflix advertising. Start out by figuring out what your budget is for this type of advertising. Then, figure out the length and placement of your ad along with your target audience.
